A little weather excitement to bring this holiday weekend to a close. And with December just around the corner you might be wondering how many inches of snow we were getting. But no, this is Kansas remember, and at around two thirty this afternoon the tornado sirens went off. Tornados in the winter, go figure. Anyway the storm passed over the city with no tornados hitting us directly but they were dropping down all around us. Hmmm blizzard conditions in the western part of the state and tornados in the central part of the state, but like I said this is Kansas.

The backside of the tornadic storm as it moved on to the North.

This past week has moved by like a slow motion blur. Little did I know that the cold I mentioned in my last post would turn into the cold of colds. I was sneaking by on cold medicine till Wednesday when it hit me like two tons landing square on my shoulders. You know it's bad when your boss takes one look at you and chases ya off the job telling you to go home and get better. And to tell you the truth I'm still not sure how I even made it to work and back that day. Anyway with a lot of cold medicines of various types and just as much sleep I am a little better, though I still trying to hack what's left out of my lungs. As I get older I'm discovering that being alone is harder to handle then it used to be. But one thing is for sure being alone while you're sicker then shit really sucks.
Oh yeah Happy Belated Thanksgiving Day.

I got home from work with the intention of getting back into the swing of posting. However with this cold I managed to get, this is all I feel like doing right now. Maybe tomorrow, right now my head longs for the pillow.
That's it for now. Later.

The End Of An Era

The strong chilly winds not only ushered in our first real taste of winter today but also found the people of this area in a state of shock and disbelief. The shock and disbelief came about following the announcement of the retirement of Bill Snyder as the Kansas State University football head coach, thus bringing to an end an era in college football in this area. Coach Snyder took over a team that was not among the worst teams in college football but rather WAS the worst team in college football and turned the program into one of the nations best for a while. He not only lead the Wildcats to their first bowl game in a long while but to eleven straight bowl games. He is in my eyes one of the best if not the best football coach ever.Though I know that all good things most sooner or later come to an end this day still saddens me. But I want to take this time to say THANKS Coach Snyder. Thank you for showing those of us in this area that yes anything is possible with enough hard work. And thanks for the many enjoyable and memorable Saturday afternoons of college football. Best of luck on your upcoming retirement and enjoy you've certainly earned it.
That's it for now. Later.

The war is on here in the state of Kansas. The war of what is science and what isn't. And the first battle it appears has been won by the Kansas Board of Education. Yesterday they voted to change the science standards on how science will be taught in Kansas schools. They voted to allow Intelligent Design to be taught as a disclaimer to Evolution. In other words they want to bring Creationism into the classrooms of our public schools. The way I see it is one is actually a science while the other is a belief. What it really amounts to is the religious right trying to bring religion into the public schools. Though I'm not against religion or god I feel this subject is more suited for Sunday school rather then the public school system. Now that you know how I feel on this subject I will add that I'm not really worried that these new standards will go into effect. I have a feeling that those school board members that voted for the new standards will suffer the same fate as likewise school board members of other states. In other words they will be voted out of office and the old science standards will be re-instated. However if I am wrong and this new standard goes into effect I then propose that the state of Kansas ceases to fund education with any tax money. If the religious right wants religion in the schools then let them fund the education system.
OK ranting is over with. Time to kick back and relax.
That's it for now.

Little did I know when I left for work this morning that within a matter of minutes I would go from the bottom of the heap to the top of the ladder. A phone call from my boss informed me I'd get to be the boss for the next couple of days. OK, so I really wasn't going to be the boss, but he did want me to look after things while he'd be gone for a couple of days. He and his wife were on their way to Texas because their daughter is about to have a baby.
So it really isn't that big a deal. Still it's nice to know he trusts me enough to look after things so he can get away. That's a start.
Not much else going on, so I'll just say...
That's it for now. Later.

Ok folks I'm doing better and can now actually concentrate for more then seconds at a time. So what was it that afflicted me and made my weekend a living hell. Well it wasn't a disease serious or otherwise, though I would imagine a small infection was involved. Actually what I had was a good old fashioned tooth ache. It's amazing how something as simple as that can turn your whole life upside down. You can't concentrate, can't sleep and damned sure don't feel like eating.I'm sure you're asking why I didn't just go get it taken care of. As I stated in my last post my lack of insurance keeps me from running down and doing that. And I can't get insurance with this company till their next open enrollment period this coming January. So till then I wait it out if possible. And I'm happy to say this current episode appears to have passed. So now back to my normal way of life, that is once I figure out what normal is.
That's it for now. Later.
